Kinja'd!!!

For something I designed and planned it didn’t turn out so bad.

Kinja'd!!!

The marble hole in the wall is finally there.

Kinja'd!!!

I ended up really liking the pattern in the porcelain

Kinja'd!!!

That’s about it, just the mirror and that faucet still to come.

Kinja'd!!!

The lighting is also better now.

It looks nice, although I have to admit I really don’t like those rainfall showerheads. I prefer my shower to hit me from the neck down, leaving my head and face out of the stream. The best compromise I found was a hotel with a knob that switched between a rainfall and a more conventionally mounted massage head with a row of side sprayers below.

Hey, that looks really nice! You obviously put in effort. Well done.

Because I must criticize something about a job that’s obviously done far better than I could do, I don’t like your casing.

I’d personally have used something closer to this but a little smaller:

Kinja'd!!!

A friend redid their bathroom a little while ago, had the same impression. The bathroom itself looks fantastic, but as you go to leave it the door and casing let it all down...

The casing around the door? I didn’t change that, that is some 40 year old work from when the building was first build.

To be quite honest that was my mistake, I just bought the nicest looking shower-head I could find. The concentrated water pressure from the previous conventional head is something I really miss.

You’re forgiven then :)

I’m in the industry and we’re seeing more and more houses getting square trim. I just saw a new, modern bathroom with a currently popular trim style and thought you might have justdone it.

Funny how something that was probably considered a cheap option back then is considered stylish now. Same goes for those jambs... I’ll have you know those are a pain in the ass to install. But whatever the customer wants I guess...

But seriously, nice work on that bathroom.

I don’t think reveal casings look good around doors, but they make excellent baseboards. I did a pretty big reno and did 1x4 poplar with a 1/4" reveal and a 1/8" roundover for the baseboards. All window and door casing was just flat stock with a roundover. Looks good.

I like the baseboards too, but I have to disagree on the casing. And if you’ve got a good carpenter that can match the reveals up to each other to make an unbroken line all through the house it’s even better. This isn’t a 1/4" reveal though, it’s 1/8". As far as flat stock goes, we’ve gotten so much demand for it recently that we ended up making an actual casing knife instead of just sending people 1x4 like we used to do. Saves having to sand the edges off.

If you want to see a really nice modern house though...

What are the floors? Hemlock? And walnut doors? Would have loved walnut doors but didn’t have the money (or, really, big enough rooms). Clear polycrylic oak veneer for me. Those doors look good but they don’t have what most people would call a casing. Also, what’s up with the hardware package? Are those mortise locks?

Not sure, we don’t supply flooring. Trim/doors is our thing. Does look like Hemlock though.

And you’re right, there’s no casing, just a 1/2" reveal around the door jamb. You’ll find the details on that (if you’re interested) in another section of the site under “Zip-Clik”.

And TBH I can’t remember exactly which job these pictures are, so I can’t tell you exactly. It looks like concealed hinges, and we have done mortise body locks, so it could be... but I think in this case the handles have the long faceplates because the privacy hardware in this style has a separate knob for the latch.

In our bathroom remodel - which is finally out of demo and into the build phase - we are installing two “normal” showerheads, one with a diverter to a rainfall above. It’s gonna be sweet .

I’m jealous. I suppose if we ripped out the nearly useless garden tub and combined that space with the tiny shower stall, we would have enough room to have a two-headed shower. As it is now, our shower barely has enough room to turn around. If we put in a rainfall shower head, there would be no escaping the waterfall.

The master bath was originally 84" x 44.5" - that’s for the sink, toilet, shower and any “walking” room. We’ve absorbed two closets to make the bathroom nearly 3 times its original size in order to accommodate the bigass shower. 72" x 44.5" with a bench at the end.

The two closets won’t be missed as the POs built a “sun room” - a 10' x 10' addition with two little windows - off the master bedroom which has been converted into a, frankly huge, walk-through closet.

Sounds nice. Our house isn’t that old and has a fair-sized bathroom, but the shower is tiny and the closet is too small. My wife is thinking about stealing space from the “office” to a) build a mud room off the garage; b) build a pantry since the nearby kitchen has little storage space; and c) expand the master closet.

I think I’d rather move.
